POCKET-SIZED STILLMAN & BIRN SKETCHBOOK (2023-24)
The second-half of last year, this sketchbook had legs: All over New York City, Bismarck (North Dakota), Green Bay (Wisconsin) and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, London-Glasgow-Edinburgh (pronounced ED-IN-BRA), Palm Springs and Los Angeles – Hollywood, California. And along the way, of course, memories being made. Happy times. Gut-wrenching experiences.
Drawing has always been a lot more to me than a professional practice or enjoyable hobby taken to extremes. Drawing is a way to process the world around us and that world we can’t see with our eyes. Making a drawing by its very nature puts you in the moment, for a moment, and seemingly heightens ALL of our senses – sight, sound, smell, taste, touch. Free-associations are mingled with seemingly concrete facts until for a time, Time itself stands still, fully realized.
